How to Colonize an Asteroid

Steam Propulsion

"Steam?" No - I haven't lost my mind. With the number of dead comets floating around in space, water is readily available. You can propel a craft in zero gravity by providing just a bit of reaction mass. Water is cheap and plentiful, and sunlight can be focused with mirrors to heat it to a high temperature. Eject the steam from the craft through a directional nozzle, and you have a stearable rocket engine. Due to the simplicity of this engine, it might just be the ultimate thing to use when the colonists go prospecting nearby asteroids. They can get their initial boost from the linear induction engines on the asteroid colony, and then use good old fashioned steam power to cruise around the asteroid belt.
