Mariner 6 Mars February 24, 1969 Flyby of southern hemisphere, studied the atmosphere (see Mariner 7).
Mariner 7 Mars March 27, 1969 Studied the martian atmosphere
Mariner 9 Mars May 30, 1971 First spacecraft from earth to orbit another planet.
Mariner 10 Venus and Mercury February 5, 1974 First craft to use gravity assist propulsion(the "sling shot" effect).
