"Analog" is a constantly changing signal in an electronic circuit, such as the sine wave from the ac wall outlet or the changing voltage levels of an audio (sound) signal. The "real world" works on an analog basis - things are constantly changing at various voltages and currents, as opposed to digital circuits which are either on or off.
