How to Colonize an Asteroid
Since it won't be possible to run to the grocery or hardware stores from our colony ship, and since we won't be able to open the windows and let in some fresh air, we have to create an ecosystem on board the colony ship to feed us and clean our air. This must be a closed ecosystem - all wastes must be recycled one hundred percent. The only waste product which we will be able to afford will be heat. In this section, we will explore our basic physical needs and the methods we can use to meet them.
