How to Colonize an Asteroid

Biological Organisms and their Classification (Taxonomy)

The variety of plants and animals on our planet is vast, and there are many different types of environments in which they can be found. While there are several local environmental regions on the planet which can support human life, we will have to settle for a specific area for our colony. My arbitrary choice is for something like the mixed forests and meadows of north eastern United States. The forests of north western europe are very similar. In addition, we may need to create small pockets of a different type of environment (such as tropical rain forest or desert) to support plants which contain medicinal or chemical properties of which we are in need, and for which there is no northern substitute. Note that this database is by no means complete, but it is meant as a guide to get you started. What would you add? What would you not take?
