How to Colonize an Asteroid
There are many chemicals we use in our day to day lives which cannot be easily or economically produced by man, but are the by products of biological processes. These chemicals and compounds include many medicines, like aspirin or penicillin, and many other useful products such as oil or alcohol. The title, "The Biological Production of Chemicals", sounds kind of scary, but a simple example is the brewing of homemade beer - in addition to producing something for consumption - the home brewing process uses yeast to produce alcohol.
This section of the web will look at a few other specific compounds or chemicals of which we will be in need on the asteroid, and at the methods or processes actually required to carry out their production.
